Flagship Step 1 program

The Faculty-Supported USMLE Step 1 Program

A managed Step 1 program, not an hourly session. One plan, one accountable program director, and a teaching team working from the same objectives — private instruction, a live daily schedule, and NBME-focused analysis.

Program scope and investment are determined after an initial readiness and needs assessment.

This is not hourly tutoring.

Hourly tutoring gives you a teacher for the length of a session. When it ends, deciding what to study next, interpreting your last assessment, and keeping the plan coherent falls back to you.

The Faculty-Supported USMLE Step 1 Program is a managed program. Redox assesses where you are, designs the plan, teaches it, coordinates every educator who touches it, assigns the supporting material, monitors whether the plan is actually being executed, interprets your performance, and adjusts between sessions.

Hourly tutoring

  • A tutor teaches during a scheduled session.
  • You decide what to study next.
  • Each session stands alone.
  • Progress is self-assessed.
  • You manage the resources.

The Step 1 Program

  • Redox assesses, designs, teaches, coordinates, monitors, and adjusts.
  • Assignments are set daily and revised weekly.
  • Every session, recording, and assignment supports one plan.
  • NBME and question-bank performance is reviewed and acted on.
  • Materials are assigned to match the current lesson.

The operating model

Every lesson supports one plan.

Nothing in the program runs on its own track. Teaching, assessment data, assigned material, and weekly adjustments all point at the same objectives — and one person is accountable for keeping them aligned.

Who this program is for

Built for students who need a program, not a session.

  • You want structure, not sessions

You're preparing for Step 1 and want a coordinated program rather than isolated hours.

  • Your NBME scores have stalled

Performance has plateaued and you're not sure which weaknesses to prioritize first.

  • You need accountability

You study consistently, but you want a plan that adjusts and someone tracking whether it's working.

  • You're an international student or graduate

You're coordinating school eligibility, clinical obligations, or a complicated timeline.

  • You're a parent or family

You want a coordinated educational program with a single point of accountability.

  • You're returning to Step 1

A previous attempt or a long gap means the plan has to start from where you actually are.

What the program includes

Every item is something Redox does — not a feature you’re handed and left to run yourself.

  • Private instruction

Direct teaching with your assigned primary instructor, working from the plan your program director maintains. The comprehensive model may include two sessions per week; cadence is set to your needs.

  • A live daily study schedule

What to study, and in what order, each day — maintained and revised as you progress.

  • NBME-focused analysis

Your assessment and question-bank performance is reviewed to identify and prioritize weak areas.

  • Integrated materials

Redox Step 1 teaching materials and NBME-focused learning materials, assigned to support the lesson you're actually on.

  • Curated recorded instruction

Selected recorded teaching, assigned to reinforce your current lessons.

  • Asynchronous review

Review and feedback between sessions, so the week between lessons isn't unsupervised.

  • Accountability and adjustment

Scheduling, progress monitoring, and weekly revision of assignments and resources.

  • A formal four-week review

A structured review closing the initial period, with recommendations for the next phase and testing timeline.

  • Paired lesson planning

Instructors plan together so lessons reinforce one another instead of competing for your time.

The teaching team

One plan. One person accountable for it.

Redox assigns you a primary instructor for your teaching, and a program director who owns the plan from start to finish. Other educators contribute when your demonstrated needs call for their expertise — but the plan, and the responsibility for it, stay in one place.

Program Director — accountable for your program

Chris Baldasano, M.S.

Chris designs and maintains your program. He sets the plan, monitors your daily progress, reviews your NBME and question-bank performance, and coordinates every educator who contributes. He remains accountable for the whole of it regardless of who teaches a given session. He is a current medical student with an M.S. and several years of medical and health-science education experience.

Your primary instructor

Assigned to your needs

Redox assigns a primary instructor matched to your subject needs and timeline. They teach your private sessions and work from the plan your program director maintains — so what happens in a session is never disconnected from what happens the rest of the week.

Chief USMLE Content Advisor

Kristin Jastrzembski, MD

Known to students as Dr. J, she provides faculty oversight of the Step 1 program and helped develop Redox's Step 1 curriculum and teaching approach, bringing more than two decades of USMLE education experience. She may work with students directly where her expertise is appropriate, determined by your needs and program structure. She also leads small-group Step 1 drill sessions, which Redox students may join at a preferred rate — optional and separately priced.

Educator & curriculum contributor

Precious A.

Precious develops and reviews Redox's internal curriculum, study plans, and student materials. She reviews student plans and progress asynchronously, brings a recent Step 1 perspective, and may contribute targeted instruction where appropriate.

Where a specific subject would materially benefit from a specialist educator, Redox may bring one in. Any additional cost is discussed and approved in advance.

The four-week learning cycle

The standard program is structured around an initial four-week period. The order matters — you cannot adjust before you measure.

  1. 01

    Assess

A readiness and needs assessment establishes your starting point: history, timeline, NBME results, school requirements, availability.

  2. 02

    Plan

Your program director builds a live daily schedule and sets the objectives every lesson will support.

  3. 03

    Teach

Private instruction targets the priorities the assessment identified, with instructors planning in pairs.

  4. 04

    Practice

Question-bank review and test-taking strategy, with materials and recordings supporting the current lesson.

  5. 05

    Measure

NBME-focused performance analysis shows what is improving and what is not.

  6. 06

    Adjust

Assignments and resources are revised weekly. A formal review closes the four weeks and sets the next phase.

NBME-focused preparation

Your results decide what you study next.

Redox reviews your NBME and question-bank performance to identify weak areas, prioritize them against your timeline, and revise your assignments accordingly. The point isn’t to collect scores — it’s to convert them into a specific, ordered list of what to work on, then check whether the work moved anything.

Redox does not provide, reproduce, or distribute NBME examination content. NBME assessments are purchased and administered through the NBME directly. Redox does not guarantee a particular score, a specific NBME improvement, or a passing result.

Most of the program happens between sessions.

Two hours of teaching a week is not what changes a score. What changes it is what happens in the other hundred — and that is the part Redox manages: a daily schedule you work from, recorded instruction assigned to reinforce the current lesson, materials matched to where you are, asynchronous review, and someone checking that the plan is actually being executed.

Program consultation

Before anything is scheduled, we look at where you actually are.

The consultation covers your academic history, your timeline, your most recent NBME results, your school’s requirements, and your real availability. From that we recommend a program scope — teaching cadence, level of faculty support, and phase structure.

Each program is structured around the student’s instructional needs, timeline, and required level of faculty support. Program scope and investment are determined after this assessment.

Questions

Who will teach me?

Redox assigns a primary instructor matched to your subject needs and timeline, and they teach your private sessions. Your program director, Chris Baldasano, owns the plan, monitors your progress, and remains accountable for the complete program. Additional Redox educators contribute when your demonstrated needs call for their expertise.

How often will I meet with an instructor?

Cadence is individualized. The comprehensive model may include two private instructional sessions per week. Your recommended cadence is set during the consultation.

Is the program customized?

Yes. The assessment sets your starting point, and your daily schedule and weekly assignments are built and revised around your performance, timeline, and obligations.

Are Dr. J's group sessions included?

No. Her small-group Step 1 drill sessions are optional and separately priced. Redox students may join at a preferred rate, arranged through your program director.

Are study-resource subscriptions or NBME fees included?

No. Third-party question banks, study-resource subscriptions, and NBME assessment fees are purchased separately unless a specific inclusion is confirmed in writing.

Does Redox guarantee that I will pass?

No. No preparation program can guarantee a Step 1 result, and Redox does not promise a passing outcome, a specific score, or a particular NBME improvement. What we commit to is the structure: an honest assessment, a maintained plan, coordinated instruction, and measurement you can see.

How is pricing determined?

Program scope and investment are determined after the initial readiness and needs assessment, based on instructional needs, timeline, and the level of faculty support required.

Can the program accommodate clinical rotations or school obligations?

Yes. Your availability is part of the assessment, and the daily schedule is built around your actual obligations rather than in spite of them.

Every lesson supports one plan.

Tell us where you are — your timeline, your most recent NBME results, and what your school requires. We’ll tell you honestly what the right program looks like, and whether we’re the right people to run it.
